Aged in ex-bourbon barrels with some cherries inside, this limited edition beer is a taste explosion of oak, cherries, whisky and a touch of rhubarb.
This year’s batch retains those toasty, vanilla and cherry notes with hints of whisky and a fruity, rhubarb tang. The flavours are like a super-charged fruitcake with sweet raisins and bitter cherries.
Both Barrels started life as a single barrel's worth back in 2010 when we first opened our Distillery. We put some bottling-strength Broadside into a bourbon barrel along with some cherries. It was left to age for a year, and we used some of it to take to some beer festivals, but always topped up the barrel with fresh Broadside - effectively a solera system (which is used to make sherry). Then, two years ago, we took that single barrel and spread its contents amongst 12 other bourbon barrels and again topped them up with fresh Broadside and some more cherries. So, a small part of your beer will be six years old!
Contains gluten - barley
A taste like no other. Got to be drunk from a glass the size used for wine, rather than your normal pint! Richness with bitterness combining to provided a taste that you just want to discover further. A real treat.
Strong beer with a strong taste. I wish it was more readily available in the Midlands. Don't think I could manage 6 bottles though.
I saved the Both Barrels from my Advent Calendar (and a few others) for when a friend came round, but neither of us could drink it as it was so sour. The only bad bottle in the Calendar, I can't believe it's supposed to taste like that?
As if the advent calendar was not disappointing enough, with a lack of proper sized bottles and no alcohol beers...
The 24th window was opened to reveal this lovely looking bottle with an interesting description.
However this all changed on tasting, based on broadside(delicious), has turned very sour with a vinegar after taste after ageing in whisky casks. This is not something I would consider buying alone and the advent calendar also would not be recommended.
A gentlemen gave me a taste. of Both Barrels last night it was Fantastic must get some, xx
