Brewed with Pale Ale, Crystal and Brown Malts, Tally-Ho is a rich, heartwarming barley wine with notes of biscuits and raisins. It was first brewed in 1Adnams Tally-Ho 2013 bottle880 when brewers’ beards were long, and their pipes even longer… For as long as the current brewery team can remember, Tally-Ho has been brewed at the end of October as a winter ale for the festive season. A number of pubs (including The Sole Bay in Southwold) also lay down a cask or two to age in their cellars, just like fine wine, to emerge many months later for special occasions. It wasn't always brewed as a Christmas beer. The historical brewing records show that Tally-Ho was once brewed most of the year round and, in terms of volume, was second place behind the most frequently brewed beer, Adnams Mild. However, at 7.2% abv, Tally-Ho's richness and warmth lends itself to wintery, fireside evenings, so we continue to brew this limited edition beer late in the year. Fergus explains, "This year's Tally-Ho has good malt flavours. The 2013 brew is full of fruitcake and raisin aromas and tastes a touch sweeter than 2012. We brewed it early in September then left it to mature until racking in early October. This long maturation period has created a smooth, round mouthfeel, tempered the sweetness, and integrated the rich fruitcake flavours." Tally-Ho is available in 330ml bottles in our stores and online, and in cask in selected outlets.
