Adnams Beach Clean 2012

By sarahhowe, also posted in News on

On Saturday 15th September, on bright sunny morning in Southwold, 30 adults, ten eager children and two dogs descended on to Southwold beach with only one thing their mind - to clean it up! True, there was a promise of free fish and chips at The Harbour Inn at the end but it was all in aid of our annual Adnams Coastal Clean, which happily coincided with the Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch Big Weekend. So after combing the beach and dunes from Gun Hill to the harbour front, 15 bin bags of rubbish were collected, mostly comprising of pieces of plastic, paper, string and rope from the beach and empty beer bottles and cans (not Adnams , I might add) in the dunes. The oddest items of litter to be found seemed to be scattered car parts ( a hubcap and a piece of windscreen wiper) and a wooden post in a lump of concrete. We'd like to thank all the members of the public who donate their and their children's time to our Coastal Clean and we hope to see you again next year.
