Autumn is a time of contrasts. If you aren’t being bathed in sunshine, you are being blown around by the wind. We’ve therefore devised a couple of cocktail recipes that celebrate the duality of the season.
They are both made with sweet Sloe Gin and sour lemon juice; and one is hot, while the other is cold. They are just made for autumn; when one day you need refreshment, and the next you need warming up.
As well as using a dash of Adnams’ delicious Sloe Gin and lively lemons as a garnish, both recipes have something else in common. They are ready in no time at all.
Making our simple Sloe Toddy is as quick as putting the kettle on, while the Sloe Gin Sour is literally ready in two shakes.
50ml Adnams Sloe Gin
25ml Lemon Juice
15ml Sugar Syrup (Made in advance with equal parts sugar and water. Heat until dissolved and leave to cool before use)
1 Egg white
Lemon Peel Twist for garnish
Old Fashioned glass or short tumbler
Make your sugar syrup in advance.
Pour your Adnams Sloe Gin, the lemon juice, sugar syrup, and one egg white into your cocktail shaker.
Shake everything dry - without ice.
Add your ice cubes and shake well, until fluffy.
Strain into an Old Fashioned glass.
Garnish with a twist of lemon peel.
200ml Hot water
Lemon juice to taste
Clear mug, or a double-walled mulled wine or latte glass
Heat around 200ml of water in a pan or kettle.
Add 1 tsp honey to your mug
Add 200ml of boiled water and stir until the honey is dissolved.
Add your 50ml shot of Adnams Sloe Gin and stir again.
Juice your lemon and add according to taste.
Garnish with a wheel of lemon.
