Adnams Coronation Ale, 1953

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

Adnams has a long history of brewing limited edition beers to celebrate national events. This year, Fergus and the brewing team have brewed a celebratory Diamond Ale to toast the Queen's 60th year of reign. We still have just one remaining bottle in the Adnams museum of a very special beer brewed in the Coronation year of 1953 - Coronation Ale. Here it is pictured alongside the 1977 Royal Ale made for the Silver Jubilee. Adnams Coronation Ale 1953 and 1977 Royal Ale The celebratory beers are well-known, but it came as a surprise to recently uncover a section of inscribed concrete on the floor of what was the old Adnams Cellar & Kitchen Store behind The Crown Hotel. The markings were discovered as the building was being cleared out in preparation for housing some of our Copper House spirit barrels. The initials are of the 1977 Adnams wine warehouse team - Herbert Bullen, Wally Stanard and Steve Brabben. Let's hope we all have a very happy and memorable Diamond Jubilee celebratory weekend in 2012. Cheers! The Adnams 1977 wine warehouse team's Jubilee inscription recently uncovered
