Adnams Great British Beach Clean 2014

By Benedict Orchard, also posted in News on

Adnams Spring Beach Clean 2014 VolunteersWe have a few traditions up our sleeves at Adnams, whether it’s the ever successful Adnams 10k run, our fun-packed Newmarket Nights, or even appearances at beer festivals. However, certainly my favourite tradition (and now in its 11th year I think we can call it that) is the Adnams 'big' beach clean. Every September, in conjunction with the Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beachwatch Big Weekend, we round off our year of beach cleans with one last big one! Last year saw around 30 of us collect over 3000 pieces of rubbish. The 2014 MCS Great British Beach Clean in Southwold will take place on Saturday 20th September 2014 at 10am. We will meet in The Reading Room of The Swan Hotel for a quick briefing before heading to the beach. Adnams beach clean in progressAs this is our big clean, we will not only be picking up the litter but will also be recording it all along our 1km stretch of adopted beach, from Gunhill to the Harbour. This will feed into the 21st MCS annual report and then into a much wider global database with the overall aim to help curb the rising trend in beach litter.

Free Fish & Chips and a pint of Adnams!

OfAl removes car tyre from beach course, as those returning beach cleaners know, that is not all. We like to say thank you to our volunteers and this year will be no different, so for everyone who helps out there will be free Fish & Chips and a pint (or soft drink) waiting for you once we reach the end and join our lovely friend Nick, the Landlord, at The Harbour Inn. So please do join us on Saturday 20th September 2014. You can even don your stripey swimming costume if you’re feeling brave! All you need to do to come along is send me an e-mail at, then turn up on the day. Children and dogs are very welcome to join us too. I will be sending out further instructions for the day nearer to the time. Look forward to seeing you then.
