Adnams Summer Beach Clean 2015 round-up

Adnams Southwold June's Beach Clean volunteers 2015A big thank you to all of our brilliant volunteers who took part in our Summer Beach Clean on Saturday the 6th of June. We set off after coffee at The Crown with a group of around 50 people to start the clean at Gunhill. It is always very encouraging to see a lot of familiar faces, our so-called ‘hard-core beach cleaners’, and some new faces. One gentleman told me that he regularly travels 140 miles with his family to attend our beach cleans - now that is dedication! Luckily, the weather gods seems to be in a good mood when we do our beach cleans, although I may have jinxed that now! Once again, it was a sunny morning, possibly a bit too windy though, as we had to be very careful not to have the picked litter blown out of our bin liners! One person commented that Southwold beach seemed much less polluted than a beach a bit further south he had visited earlier in the week. Perhaps this could be because we have cleaned our section of beach three times a year for the last ten years, although of course it would be much better to see all of our beaches and seas litter-free. Southwold Beach before the beach clean June 2015As always we found lots of pieces of string and other fishing tackle bits, cotton buds, wet wipes etc. Another ‘good’ harvest! As always after a beach clean, we all celebrated with a pint at the Harbour Inn. Our next beach clean will be on Saturday the 19th of September which is our major clean of the year where we undertake a litter survey as part of The Marine Conservation Society's Great British Beach Clean. After our September Clean as well as a free pint we will treat all volunteers to fish & chips at The Harbour Inn. An event not to be missed! Please email to register your attendance. (Ben is away at present but will answer any emails upon his return in a couple of weeks' time). Dogs and children are very welcome - please bring friends and family too. Thank you again to all who so generously spent their morning with us cleaning our beautiful Southwold beach!
