A full-bodied golden ale brewed with Pale ale and Crystal malts and wheat and hopped with Columbus, Citra, Amarillo, Eldorado and Summit Hops with provide bold citrus aromas. Sherry oak is added during the ageing process to impart subtle flavours of oak and sherry.

What's the Story?

We had the pleasure of welcoming Alberto over to brew a beer with us in December 2014 for J D Wetherspoon. Head Brewer Fergus Fitzgerald explains the brew day. "Alberto doesn’t speak much English, and as poor as my French is, my Spanish is even worse, so Alberto asked a friend of his, Dominic, to help out. Dominic originally hails from Ireland, which isn’t always a guarantee that we speak the same language, but in this case we did. Dominic’s main business is wine but he is also hugely passionate about beer and is Spain’s 1st Beer sommelier.  Spain, like much of the world, is experiencing an explosion of new breweries and Mateo & Bernabé is one of the best. Like all good brewers, Alberto is influenced by the culinary world around him and wanted to use something of Spain in the beer. So we brewed a pale ale style beer and then aged it on some Sherry oak cubes.  The Sherry Oak is there as an accent/background flavour, and adds a vanilla fruity tone to the beer, although the aroma in the brewery was in no way subtle when we used them."
