Christmas Clarets in a wooden case

By Alastair Marshall, also posted in News on

Christmas Claret in a wooden boxSorry, we have now sold out of our Clarets in a wooden box for Christmas 2013. It was early July when I flew to Bordeaux to select this year's special Clarets for Christmas. We've been working for several years now with the excellent Bordeaux Negociant Sichel & Co whose HQ is near to the Gironde river in the city of Bordeaux itself. We chose the wines of Sichel for three good reasons. Firstly, not only are the wines of good quality, they are also representative of their appellations and also full of character. Secondly, the six wines selected from a room full of Clarets represent a small journey around Bordeaux - the most famous of all wine regions. And thirdly, and sometimes the most difficult to achieve, they represent good value for money. In a region of some 800 châteaux, this is no mean feat, given that if they are not over-priced, they are more often than not undrinkable. Alastair Marshall selects wines in BordeauxOur Christmas Clarets in a wooden box (£79 with free UK standard delivery) are accompanied by a set of tasting notes which can also be downloaded as a pdf here. Bear in mind that each wine will benefit from being opened a couple of hours before serving. If you, for some strange reason, decide not to open these bottles over the festive season, do not fear. They are all well-made, well-structured red wines, and if you decide to put them aside to re-emerge at Christmas 2014 or even 2015, they will not disappoint. Happy Tasting!
