Double silver award success for Adnams

By admin, also posted in News on

We're delighted to be celebrating two silver awards for our work as a responsible, values-led business. Benedict Orchard inside Adnams Brewery Feb17The first has been awarded by Marks and Spencer (M&S), which recognises Adnams for its sustainability; the brewer becomes M&S’s first supplier within the Beers, Ciders and Spirits category to receive a Silver Validation. The accreditation is part of M&S’s Plan A initiative, which pushes the company towards becoming the world’s most sustainable retailer by sourcing responsibly, reducing waste and helping communities. To qualify for the accreditation, M&S visited the brewery in Southwold and assessed performance across three categories: Ethical, Environmental and Lean. The team concentrated on assessing the production of beers, which M&S retails under its own label; focusing on sustainable methods, lean processes and Adnams’ responsible approach to business. Benedict Orchard, Environmental Sustainability Manager for Adnams comments: “We are delighted to have been recognised by M&S as its first supplier in the beers, ciders and spirits sector to have been awarded the Silver Validation. The accreditation will help to strengthen the relationship between M&S and Adnams, and it is great to be working with a retailer that holds values that closely align with our own and is looking to make a positive impact on the world. We are really pleased with the achievement, we are keen to continue improving our processes and are striving towards achieving Gold.” In addition to the M&S accolade, Adnams also received an Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award by the Ministry of Defence, which was presented at a ceremony at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. ERS Silver award from the Ministry of DefenceThe ERS Scheme was launched in 2014 and allows companies to pledge and demonstrate their support of the armed forces community. Adnams has been recognised for its role enabling employees that are members of the armed forces community to fulfil their service commitments and aspirations to serve their country. Adnams has supported programmes such as Vets East, by providing mentoring services, offering interviews for any suitable positions at Adnams and giving full feedback to ensure they can maximise their potential. Sadie Lofthouse, Head of Human Resources at Adnams comments: “We are really proud to receive an ERS Silver Award. Our aim is to ensure real diversity amongst our teams so that our business thrives in the diverse communities in which we operate. Our brand is about individuality and quality and we look for these attributes when recruiting team members. Serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families can bring so much value to a business and our positive attitude to flexible recruitment practices and working patterns ensures we can accommodate anyone that has commitments outside of their regular role. Combined with a truly values-led and supportive culture, this means that all new employees have every opportunity to thrive.”
