Exclusive ‘Alde Ale’ brewed to celebrate 10 years of the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival

The Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival in 2014Adnams is extremely proud to have supported the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival since its creation ten years ago. To celebrate the centenary and the Festival’s success in showcasing the county's outstanding food & drink producers, we have created a one-off brew using some of Suffolk’s fabulous ingredients. It’s certainly ‘not your usual’ and we think that its mix of surprising, local ingredients will be a big hit with festival-goers this coming weekend. The beer will only be available on the Adnams Boat Bar and is limited in availability - when it’s gone, it’s gone! Adnams Brewer, Fergus Fitzgerald, explains how he has made the festival beer. “I’ve sourced local ingredients from High House Fruit Farm and Trimley herbs to make this year’s special celebratory beer. It’s going to be a hazy, golden beer with Victoria plums, strawberry mint and sorrel. It's quite dry with a touch of lemon acidity with flavours of mint, herbs and, of course, plums.” The team at Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival ran a competition for festival-goers to choose the name for our Festival beer. Well done to Anita Singleton who came up with the winning name ‘Alde Ale’. This year’s Festival hosts over 90 local producers, two demonstration stages, a pop-up bakery, hands-on masterclasses, a kids zone, a street food party on Saturday evening and also two weeks of fringe events presenting great food and drink across Suffolk. The festival weekend at Snape Maltings is on the opening weekend - the 26th and 27th September - and the fringe events run until 11th October. Adnams will be there with our boat bar and beach hut store, and we're also taking part in some festival events on the stages: East of England Co-op stage Saturday 26th September, 2pm Beers vs Spirits vs Wine Adnams Brewer Fergus Fitzgerald takes on Distiller John McCarthy and Fine Wine Manager Rob Chase in a fun head-to head where the audience is invited to cast their vote on their winning beverage. Expect lots of fierce competition and banter. The Tiptree Stage Sunday 27th September, 2.45pm Beers vs Spirits vs Wine Providing that our contenders haven't been too battered from their competition yesterday the Adnams team return to fight it out again, but the audience will decide the winner... Festival Masterclasses (Booking is essential to join the Festival Masterclasses). Saturday 26th September, Noon, Gin Cocktail Masterclass with Adnams Head Distiller John mcCarthy at the Oyster Bar. Tickets are £5 per person. (Now sold out). Sunday 27th September, 11.30am, Rye in baking, brewing and distilling, Adnams Dan Gooderham & Two Magpies Bakery at the Festival Bakery.
