Exclusive Beer for Wetherspoon available for St Patrick's Day only

Adnams Head Brewer Fergus Fitzgerald and Dungarvan Brewing Co Head Brewer Cormac O'Dwyer at Adnams Brewery in SouthwoldAdnams Brewer Fergus Fitzgerald teamed up with fellow Head Brewer Cormac O'Dwyer from Dungarvan Brewing Company to make a beer especially for St Patrick’s Day. The pair created an Irish Red Ale which will exclusively be available for one day only in JD Wetherspoon pubs - Sunday 17th March 2013.

Irish Red Ale

Cormac travelled over from Ireland to make the beer at Adnams Brewery with Fergus. The Dungarvan Brewing Company is located in County Waterford, which coincidentally is where Fergus, who was born in Limerick, studied Biotechnology. Fergus explains how the brew came to be made, "Irish Red ale seemed a natural choice as Cormac already brews a version at Dungarvan, and there are really only two Irish Beer styles to consider - Irish Dry Stout and Irish Red. The recipe was created when Cormac first visited Adnams Brewery in January. We came up with a brew that is stylistically a blend of both breweries and used Cormac's yeast so that we could capture a bit of the character of the Dungarvan beers in our Adnams brew. The recipe uses pale ale malt, crystal malt, rye crystal and roasted barley along with Admiral hops."

Tasting notes

The beer is a 4.5% Irish Red Ale, copper red in colour. It has a toffee aroma with a slight roasted note. There is more toffee on the palate which is balanced by a good herbal bitterness. Irish Red Ale is exclusively available in cask at JD Wetherspoon pubs on St Patrick's Day.
