Good moos story from the Suffolk Wildlife Trust

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

Thanks to money raised from the 5p carrier bag charge introduced to Adnams' stores last year, the Suffolk Wildlife Trust has been able to buy three beautiful British White cattle for the Hen Reedbeds. The Hen Reedbeds Reserve (situated just outside Southwold) is already home to a small herd of Könik ponies, but the introduction of cattle (which have slightly different grazing behaviours) will help manage the vegetation in the reedbeds further and prevent it from reverting to woodland. The cattle are released on to the reserve You can read more about how the carrier bag charge has already funded several important projects in a previous blog post. Keep an eye out for the cattle on the seaward side of the reserve - hopefully they will be happily munching and keeping the reedbed a valuable, open habitat. Many thanks to Peter Boyden from the Suffolk Wildlife Trust team for the photos! Cattle at the Hen Reedbeds copy
