Hoo-rye! Adnams new Rye Whisky is here!

Adnams Rye WhiskyOur new whisky has been made using rye grown by Jonathan Adnams at his farm in Reydon, just a few miles away from our brewery and distillery in Southwold. Rye has been grown in Reydon for centuries and the village’s name is derived from the Old English words, Rey meaning Rye, and Don meaning Hill. Due to the village’s position on the Suffolk Coast, our crop is amongst the first rye to catch the early morning rays as the sun rises above the North Sea. This exciting new spirit allows our distillery team to draw upon 140 years of brewing experience at Adnams. Made from 75% rye and 25% barley, rye is a complex grain that creates a thick, syrup-like 'mash' due to its protein structure and ability to retain water. Rye creates a whisky with great depth and character with a drier and spicier finish. Adnams Rye Whisky has lovely aromas of warm vanilla, raisin fudge and black peppercorns with a smooth, rich and spicy palate. John McCarthy, our head distiller, recommends his perfect serve: “Serve neat with a splash of water, or personally I would have an “Old Fashioned” cocktail made with the Rye Whisky, angostura bitters and a brown sugar lump”. Our Rye Whisky has spent at least five years in brand new French oak barrels before bottling. Non-chill filtered Our high 47% abv allows us to avoid the chill filtering process. The higher abv allows the natural proteins to remain in solution without losing any flavour or texture. Adnams Rye Whisky is available to buy online now and in our stores from Saturday 14th October.
