International Grenache Day 2014

By Alastair Marshall, also posted in News on

Friday 19th is ‘International Grenache Day‘ - the perfect excuse to celebrate this much-loved and versatile red grape variety. Grenache is the most widely planted red grape variety in the world. It is grown wherever in the world man thinks to plant vines, because it thrives in a hot climate and is prone to producing full, fruity and somewhat alcoholic wines that are great for blending with other grape varieties. Rioja, Châteauneuf du Pape and Côtes du Rhône all rely on the Grenache grape in their make-up. If the fruit, however, is taken from an old vine whose capacity is to produce less, but of a more concentrated nature, then the wines are dramatically different, richer and full of vibrant red fruit flavours. Spain is a treasure trove of old vines as is the south of France, and allied to the enthusiasm of a great winemaker, we can find wines that are truly delicious and offer remarkable value. You can enjoy free tastings of four of our favourite Grenache-based wines at our Adnams stores (except Adnams Cellar at Jimmy's Farm) from the 15th until 21st September 2014. International Grenache Day mixed case 2014We've also put these four wines into a mixed case so you can enjoy them at your leisure. Our mixed case is £105 for three bottles each of the four wines - you save over £13 and UK standard delivery is free.
