International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

Adnams brews a beer to support International Women's Collaboration Brew Day 2014Saturday March 8th is International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (IWCB). Featuring around 60 breweries around the world, the day has two main aims: to raise the profile of women in the beer industry and to raise the profile of beer to women in what is traditionally seen as a male-dominated industry. Women in breweries across the world will be simultaneously making a beer called “Unite Pale Ale”. Although each brewery will be following roughly the same recipe, each will be using different ingredients. Belinda Jennings, Brewer and Quality Manager at Adnams, is supporting the day here at Adnams in Southwold by making a micro-brew in collaboration with Adnams’ Brewery and Distillery Tour Guides Ruth Goldsmith (who is currently training as a Beer Sommelier) and Tracy Smith (self-confessed beer obsessive). The beer will follow the suggested recipe to create: “A 4% abv pale session beer with a universally available hop, Cascade”. However, the all-female brewing team are taking the opportunity to trial a new hop alongside Cascade called Mandarina Bavaria which, like its name suggests, has lots of orange-like aromas. The malts are Cara, Pale Ale, Munich and a scoop or two of Rye. Although Adnams' Unite Pale Ale won’t be available for sale, it will be available for visitors on our Brewery Tours to taste from around the 17th March. You can follow the global making of “Unite Pale Ale” on twitter by following @PinkBootsBeer and on Facebook. Breweries tweeting on the day will be using the hashtag #IWCB. You can follow the Adnams team, too: Belinda @BelindaBeerRun, Ruth @BeerFaerie and Tracy @thebeercharmer Cheers! And best wishes to all our fellow brewers, hope you all have a great day.
