It’s all coming up Rosé

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

Alastair with winemaker Emmanuelle BaudeWe’ve all heard of flying winemakers, but this month’s visit by winemaker Emmanuelle Baude from Domaine Tour Campanets really was a flying visit. After a tasting earlier in the week in London, Emmanuelle had but a brief couple of hours to be whisked around Southwold via lunch at The Crown before catching the train straight back to London. Emmanuelle makes The Adnams Selection Provence Rosé and had made the trip up to Southwold to show Alastair her new 2015 vintage. Still a ‘tank sample’, our new vintage will be bottled this coming Friday (22nd January) and it will be several months until it is with us.

Most importantly, what’s it like?

To anyone familiar with the previous vintage, the 2015 is much more strongly flavoured (and 1% abv more alcoholic) thanks to the scorching-hot and dry summer experienced in Provence. It’s a very pretty pink in colour with clean, fresh aromas of strawberries and summer fruits. This year, alongside the Grenache, there’s a splash of Cinsault and Carignan, both of which add bite and character to the blend. It’s also a tad sweeter as the grapes were harvested so ripe, but it’s balanced superbly, and the palate is soft and round whilst maintaining freshness. Adnams' Wine Buyer, Alastair Marshal, comments, "I was impressed with the first vintage of our Provence rose and it is a delight to see Emmanuelle continue to bring back more of the neglected estate that she bought into quality production. Combine her dedication and talent along with a great vintage like 2015 and the result was a true delight. When it arrives in the early summer it will be a treat not to be missed." The 2014 vintage of The Adnams Selection Provence Rosé is currently available online and in our stores at £8.99 per bottle Winemaker Emmanuelle Baude visits Southwold
