It's the annual call for your wild hops!

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

Calling all wild hop spotters! Every year, we make a call out for everyone to look for wild hops growing in hedgerows or in gardens to help make our annual Wild Hop beer.

The hops are picked from across our region and then brought to Southwold where our brewing team collect them together and create a special amber beer. We never know what hop varieties we'll receive from our local community, which makes every brew unique every year. You can find out more about how to spot and pick hops here.

If you've never taken part before, we'd love you to join in! Due to the long, hot summer, we're geting reports that some hops are ripe now, and others still have a way to go, so we're anticipating a staggered harvest. This year, we're offering our fab hop pickers a free brewery tour at 3pm on Sunday 23rd September (places limited to two per person).

Wild hop drop off info:

When your hops are ripe, please pick the hop cones off the bine. If you already have ripe hops, you can either put them in the freezer until Sunday 23rd September, or bring them in a bag or box straight to the Adnams store in Victoria Street, Southwold during store opening hours.

Make sure you leave your name and contact details with your hops so we can invite you to our annual hop pickers gathering later in the year.

Sunday 23rd September, 10am-3pm

You can drop your hops off at the Adnams Tours and Experiences Visitor Centre, situated in the courtyard at The Swan in Southwold, on Sunday 23rd September between 10am and 3pm. If you'd like to join us on an exclusive wild hop pickers brewery tour at 3pm, then please book this in advance by calling 01502 727 225.

If you can't make Sunday, then please drop your hops off at the Adnams store in Victoria Street, Southwold at a day convenient to you up until 6pm on Monday 24th September.

Thanks, and looking forward to seeing you and your wild hops soon!
