Adnams Beach Cleaners 2013Saturday 21st September 2013 will see the return of Adnams' largest beach clean of the year. Each September we hold an event to coincide with the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch Big Weekend, where people from all around the country join forces to clean up their local beaches and record their findings. Adnams and the coast are inextricably linked. It is the setting for our brewery and distillery, it provides inspiration for our products and many of our marketing campaigns, and its where many of us have a lot of fun. We are committed to caring for the environment in which we operate, while also engaging the local community. Therefore, in order to maintain this wonderful relationship we give a little back by protecting some of our best-loved marine wildlife which comes under threat from the waste and litter in our seas. Hundreds of species of wildlife will often accidentally eat or become entangled up in litter. In addition to harming wildlife, litter on our beaches is hazardous to people and costs millions to clear up. Mary from The Swan Hotel bags up some fishing net debrisBeach litter is, however, still very prominent, whether it be fishing nets and ropes or cigarette butts, bottle tops, drinks bottles and fast food wrappers, it is all there, under your feet. Stemming the rising tide of beach rubbish is what the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch Big Weekend is all about, which is why for this big occasion we also record what rubbish we find and how much of it we find. This is used for the annual MCS Beachwatch report on a national scale This year will mark our 10th year of carrying out a beach clean on our 1 km stretch of adopted beach between Gunhill and the Harbour in Southwold. It is a really big help towards tackling beach litter and pollution and we would love you to come a long and help us give back to the local community, while being part of something much bigger. So please, join us on Saturday 21 September 2013, meeting at 10am in the Swan Hotel, where there will be a quick briefing and issuing of equipment before heading down to Gun Hill to begin our clean. As a reward for all your hard work we’d love you to join us after the clean for a free pint of Adnams (or a soft drink) and a tasty portion of Fish and Chips at The Harbour Inn. If you would like to come please email to book your place and receive your instructions for the day.
