Karen Hester, Adnams Operations DirectorKaren Hester, Adnams’ Operations Director, has been nominated by Chairman Andy Wood for a major national award celebrating inspirational women. The First Women Awards, in association with Lloyds Banking Group, were created by Real Business and the CBI to recognise outstanding women whose talents and achievements were inspiring future generations. Karen’s story is one of strength and determination. She joined Adnams 25 years ago as an office cleaner, and has steadily progressed through the company to managing a budget of some £8 million and 300 employees. Before her career started with Adnams, Karen became the youngest woman in the UK to hold an HGV licence when she passed her test in the Army at just 17-years-old. Outside of Adnams, Karen is the Chair of the Bench at Lowestoft and Ipswich Magistrates’ Court, and Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors of Lowestoft Sixth Form College. On her nomination Karen said, “I was fortunate to have joined an organisation where someone spotted my potential and took me through. I’ve done the same for my staff and taken through talent I have recognised in each team”. Our fingers’ will be crossed until June 12th; the day when the First Woman Awards ceremony takes place.
