Meet the Adnams Tour Riders

By sarahhowe, also posted in News on

The Tour of Britain starts on Sunday 9th September and there's much excitement now that Tour de France winner and Olympic Champion Bradley Wiggins is confirmed to race alongside Mark Cavendish and nearly 100 other professional riders. And we have even more of a reason to be excited as we are sponsoring Stage 1, the East Anglian leg of the tour. But before the professionals take to the road, there's the opportunity the day before (Saturday 8th September) for amateur cyclists to take on the challenge of Stage 1. There are two distances open to the public, 92km or the full tour distance of 200km, and several of our employees are taking up the challenge. We have a Team of just over 30 cyclists taking part so, before the Tour kicks off, here's some background information on a few of our Adnams Tour Riders. Name: Emma Hibbert Job Title: Head of Corporate Affairs Tour Distance: 92k Target Time: The bus leaves at 4pm – I hope to be on that! Inspiration: I’ve always loved my bike, when I was a little girl I used to ride round and round the block for hours! These days I venture a little further afield and have done a few events around the 60 mile distance. They are really enjoyable and a great atmosphere as the super fit club cyclists mingle with those out for a more leisurely pootle. I like the fact that it’s not a race, more a personal achievement. I think  the 30+ Adnams team will make a real impact as we set out in our Champion Jerseys – cheer us on if you see us. Finally, a big thank you to all the volunteers who give up their time to make events like this happen! Name: Chris Parker Job Title: Bond Administrator Tour Distance: 200k Pro Ride Target Time: ‘Rolling’ time 6hrs 30, for the whole 200k group! Inspiration: Loose weight = live longer… Ride a bike, train more, eat less..simple. I do this for fun, at 2 stone heavier I did the east Anglian stage in just under 7 hours. I’m a seasoned amateur road racer with national experience as a schoolboy/junior. I’ve concentrated on 1hr circuit races and 3hr road races this year so I’m way down on mileage therefore this is by no means an easy target. Hopefully I can pass on some experience of group riding to the rest and help to generate interest in the sport. Most likely to be heard muttering my most overused cycling quote “Shut up Legs”- (Jens Voigt) Most likely to be found – hiding out of the wind behind a triathlete. Name: Stephen Pugh Job Title: Finance Director Tour Distance: 92km Target Time: A couple of days Inspiration: Incipient insanity You can follow our Tour riders on twitter using the hashtag #AdnamsTOB and if you'd like to order your own Adnams Tour Rider cycle shirt we have a limited number still available online and in our Cellar & Kitchen Stores. We'd love to hear from you if you or someone you know is participating on the Tour Ride. Please leave your comments below.
