Jenny and Simon at the bar, The Ship Inn at LevingtonWe’re delighted to announce the arrival of new Managers Jenny Hay and Simon Turner at The Ship Inn, Levington. Some of you may already know Jenny and Simon from their time at The Crown Hotel in Southwold where Jenny worked as the Manager and Simon was Senior Sous Chef. The Ship Inn is a beautiful 13th century thatched pub overlooking the River Orwell and is situated next to St. Peter’s Church in the quiet village of Levington. With around 800 years of history, you’d expect a few changes to the pub, but it still retains its character with oak beams (some from ancient ships, giving the pub its name) and two welcoming real fires. Chef Simon Turner comments “Jenny and I are delighted to be the current custodians of this historic pub, which has always been at the heart of the community here in Levington. We’re keeping traditional pub opening hours – that’s 11am until 11pm Monday to Saturday, and from 11am until 10pm on Sunday - so that villagers, locals and visitors alike can drop in at a time that suits them. Home-made Shepherds Pie at The Ship Inn, Levington, January 2015We aim to create a real home from home here at The Ship, with a warm welcome and freshly-prepared food. I will be using local suppliers to create good, hearty and great-tasting dishes – everything from home-made sausage rolls to a three-course meal. The pub has recently been refurbished so we urge anyone who hasn’t been in to the pub for a while to meet us and try something from our new menu. It goes without saying that we’ll always have a great range of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks available year-round too!” You can find out more about Jenny and Simon on The Ship Inn’s website.
