New! Curitiba Pale Ale

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

Adnams Bodebrown Curitiba Pale Ale bottle shotCuritiba Pale Ale - a new, limited edition bottled beer brewed at Adnams in Southwold in collaboration with Brazilian brewers Bodebrown. Curitiba Pale Ale is an American-inspired Pale Ale brewed with pale ale, amber, crystal, dark crystal and rye ale malts and hopped with Centennial, Eldorado and Amarillo hops. These American hops add punchy citrus, orange-blossom and watermelon flavours and aromas. To add a touch of Brazilian spice, we’ve added some pink peppercorns to create a pale ale full of vibrant personality. Fergus and the Bodebrown team, May 2014Curitiba Pale Ale was first brewed back in May 2014 by brothers Samuel and Paulo Cavalcanti from Bodebrown Brewery in Brazil and Fergus and the brewing team here in Southwold, as part of JD Wetherspoon’s World Cup 2014 celebrations. In Samuel’s words, the beer was “created to swing with the English crowd of emotion during the World Cup 2014”. Pink peppercorns used in Curitiba Pale AleThe beer was such a success that we’ve brewed it again, with some of the beer going back to Brazil with Samuel and Paulo, and the rest we’ve bottled as an exclusive spring-time beer available in Adnams stores and online. Adnams and Bodebrown on Southwold beach, May 2014Now, brewers are not generally renowned for their footballing skills, but the Brazilian brewers teamed up with our Southwold crew back in May to have a friendly kick-about on Southwold beach. The weather at the time was glorious, so why not?! We were warming up for the World Cup after all… Curitiba is available in Adnams stores at £1.79 a bottle (330ml, 5% abv) and online at £18.99 for 12-bottles. You can view pictures of Bodebrown's visit to Southwold last year on Flickr.
