New! The Adnams Selection Provence Rosé

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

The Adnams Selection Provence Rosé 2014 bottle imageAfter a long search we have an exciting new addition to the Adnams Selection range - a fresh, elegant and flavoursome strawberry-scented Rosé from Provence. I first met the maker of our new Rosé, Emmanuelle Baude, at a tasting in London and thought that her stylish Provence Rosé from Domaine Tour Campanets would be ideal for our own Adnams Selection wine range. I was so impressed that Rob Chase and I arranged to meet Emmanuelle while we were tasting at Millesime Bio in the south of France earlier this year. Emmanuelle’s domaine is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty where forested hills rise to 400 meters and vine-filled valleys are scattered with ancient houses made from the local honey-coloured stone. Vineyard at Domaine Tour CampanetsGiving up a previous career as a solicitor specialised in family law, and with her father’s help, Emmanuelle bought this run-down domaine three years ago and immediately started the process of conversion to organic viticulture. The property consists of 101 hectares of which 30 are given over to vines with only 26 of these in production as she sets about the job of reviving the soil and replanting tired sites. The majority of the domaine is given over to oak forest and work is underway to clear the infestation of pines and cut back the competing shrubbery. The long term aim is to return the forest to its original state and to develop the commercial potential of nature trails and truffle hunting. Rob and Emmanuelle at the top of the winery towerEmmanuelle is a force of nature! From the moment we met her she talked long and volubly about her domaine and her philosophy and when she needed a break she quizzed us mercilessly on everything from our approach to wine, what Adnams stood for, the UK market and who we knew locally. We were given a full tour of the vineyards during which Emmanuelle shows a particular vigour in throwing her 4 x 4 up and down narrow muddy tracks to get us to the furthest reaches of her spectacular property. The winery - the 'tour' - at Domaine Tours CampanetsThe centerpiece of the estate is the winery, an unusual round-tower built by the estate’s original owners back in the 1960s. The idea being that crushed grapes are put into concrete vats at the top of the tower for fermentation and then the stages of racking and blending are powered by gravity as the wine moves down the tower. Emmanuelle and her winemaker make three different styles of Rosé, but we fell for one in particular: our chosen wine is very pale in colour and fresh and lively on the palate with the distinctive flavour of herbs and red fruits typical of Provence Rosé. Adnams Provence Rosé is available online at £8.99 per bottle (£97.08 for a case of 12) and in our stores. You can taste it for free at our stores over the weekend of 13th and 14th June 2015. (Please note that our Rosé will be arriving today in our Holt, Holkham and Woodbridge stores, and tomorrow in our Harleston store). Have you tasted it yet? We’d love to know what you think!
