Raising a glass to Dan and Alastair

Wine Buyer Dan KirbyIf you have visited our stores in Woodbridge, Holt, Holkham or Southwold, then you will probably already know Dan Kirby, who, after working with Adnams as a store manager for seven years, is now working alongside our Senior Wine Buyer, Alastair Marshall, until Alastair retires in September this year. Dan is now Adnams Wine Buyer, and is already seeping up some of Alastair's 40-years' worth of knowledge! Although Alastair will leave very big boots to fill, Dan brings with him huge amounts of energy and enthusiasm and is keen to respect Alastair's wine legacy while bringing his own blend of creativity and freedom to the Adnams wine range. A little bit about Dan Dan starting working with wine and Adnams from the age of 18 as a barman at The Black Tiles in Martlesham. Eight years later, he became Duty Manager for The Black Tiles as well as three other properties - Café Bencotto and The Alex Café Brasserie on Felixstowe seafront. At the same time as these part-time roles, Dan was touring up and down the country in a van with his punk band, One:Day:Life. As well as performing themselves, the band also worked with schools, hosting performance workshops and teaching children composition techniques. In 2010, Dan joined the Woodbridge store team as a part-time team member focusing on wine and a year after that managed the Holkham store and then the Holt store for four years. Dan became manager of the Southwold store and café in January 2016 and joined the wine team tasting panel as well as accompanying Alastair and Rob Chase (who has also now retired) on wine buying trips and tastings. From the age of 18, as well as music, wine has always been his passion. Dan has big plans for Adnams wines, and is very much looking forward to the opportunity. He'll be out and about at tasting events, so if you haven't had the opportunity to meet him yet, it won't be long until you do. Let's raise a cheer to Alastair who has done such a great job with Adnams for so long, and to Dan, who has the world of wine to explore and bring to a glass near you!
