See you at The Bitter End…

Fergus and Giles from The Bitter EndDid you know that you can get a fresh pint of Adnams en Paris? There are several destinations where you can find your favourite pint of Southwold in France, but one of the must-go-to destinations for a well-kept pint is an anglo-French pub called The Bitter End in Saint Germaine en Laye. Giles Goulding has just celebrated 20 glorious years at The Bitter End. He has been travelling to Southwold every single month over those years to collect fresh cask beer from us here in Southwold. Now that’s dedication! He stocks nine permanent Adnams beer on the bar, and also lists seasonal brews and bottled beers too. Adnams beer on the bar at The Bitter End, ParisEarlier this month, Fergus presented a special bottle of beer to Giles on his monthly visit to Southwold, to mark his anniversaire. “Giles has been coming over to pick up beer and driving back to France for longer than I’ve been at Adnams. The only thing that’s changed is the size of the vehicle and sometimes he now sends his daughter to collect the beer. Giles has always been a passionate supporter of cask beer and of Adnams in particular, and he has often lamented the passing of Adnams Extra so we thought it fitting to resurrect it for his 20th anniversary. I don’t know anyone else who goes to such lengths to make sure they have our beer on the bar and it’s with much admiration and thanks that we say happy 20th anniversary, Giles.” Dan Gooderham, Brewer, visited The Bitter End for the anniversary celebrations and to meet some of the pub’s regulars: "The pub is situated in the beautiful township of Saint-Germaine en Laye. We're very proud of what Giles and Gina have achieved - effectively, Adnams has its very own embassy in France! From my visit I can thoroughly conclude that they are terrific Ambassadors for not only the Adnams beers but also for British brewing and, let us not forget, a good old pub. The fact that Giles has dedicated 20-years driving to Southwold is a good reflection of the quality of Adnams beers and its pedigree in representing British brewing. Cheers to another 20 years, and let us hope Giles uses Adnams to the Bitter End!" You can watch a report on the celebrations here. Here’s to the next 20 years, Giles!
