Stay at The Crown and help raise funds for the RSPB

Goldfinches in SuffolkHave you been inspired by the BBC’s brilliant Springwatch programme to visit the beautiful RSPB Reserve at Minsmere? The Crown Hotel in Southwold is ideally situated to visit the reserve which is about 10 miles south of Southwold, or a 25 minute car drive along quiet country roads. For every new booking in June quoting 'Springwatch' Adnams will donate £10 to the RSPB.

About Minsmere

Minsmere is the RSPB’s flagship reserve, boasting a new visitor centre and nearly 10 square kilometers of wildlife habitat. One of the unique features of Minsmere, and one that makes the reserve so fascinating to visit, is the wide variety of habitats present here. You can find grassland, sandy heath, fresh water and saline lagoons, reed beds, coniferous and deciduous woodland and also coastal, shingle habitats all within a short walking distance. There are many species to get excited about here, but some of the highlights include bittern, marsh harrier, bearded tit, avocet, warblers (always a challenge to identify!) and mammals such as otter, badger and red deer. The Adnams Charity donated funds over a decade ago to help build a large wildlife pond situated near to the visitor centre especially to encourage children to develop a passion and interest in nature. The pond today is a superb place to go pond-dipping with your children, with nets, trays and expert guidance available. If you don’t own a pair of binoculars, don’t worry, as you can hire a pair from the reserve. All of the hides have posters inside to help you identify species of birds that you may not be familiar with. To book your stay, call The Crown on 01502 722275 to enquire about our latest offers and availability, and quote SPRINGWATCH.
