Suffolk Dog Day 2012

You caught me with my lip up!Now in its fifth year, Suffolk Dog Day was bigger and better than ever! Held in the beautiful grounds of Helmingham Hall, Suffolk Dog Day is the canine social event of the year and raises vital funds for The Suffolk Foundation. This year's event was extra-special as our furry friends had the chance to compete in their very own sporting event - the Dogylmpics. Competitive challenges included hurdles and high jump, and even a downpour did not halt proceedings. Participants were still racing about in the middle of a thunderous storm proving that nothing can stop Suffolk dogs from having fun. A host of other activities, including the ever popular have-a-go dog agility, provided plenty of exercise and stimulation for owners and dogs alike. Whilst those of a less energetic nature could content themselves by shopping and browsing a range of trade stands. There was a full programme of entertainment in the main ring too, where a variety of Show classes took place. The classes are wonderfully inclusive, ranging from 'fancy dress' to 'waggiest tail', but every dog was a winner, even if they did not get a rosette. In the afternoon, The Essex Dog Display team charmed the crowd with a brilliant display of dog handling - they even had a dog riding a bicycle (well, okay, he wasn't peddling) and had rescue dogs fearlessly jumping through hoops of fire. The Adnams Boat Bar was serving Southwold-brewed beer throughout the day to the two-legged participants, including Flame Runner and Sole Star. A range of food stalls ensured that energy levels were topped up, and visitors to the Suffolk Foundation tea tent even found free dog treats on the tables. They weren't a patch on the hand-made cakes though! You can view our Suffolk Dog Day gallery on Flickr. [set_id=72157630820954350]
