Suffolk MPs Therese Coffey and Peter Aldous visit Adnams to receive their Beer Champion AwardsSuffolk MPs Therese Coffey and Peter Aldous received their 'Beer Champion' Awards, presented by Adnams Chairman Jonathan Adnams and Head Brewer Fergus Fitzgerald, at Adnams Brewery on Friday. Therese and Peter were two of around 100 MPs selected as 'Beer Champions' by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA), Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA). These groups wanted to recognise the role of MPs who championed Britain's beer industry during 2013, especially for their support in scrapping the Beer Duty Escalator. The Beer Champions received a certificate and a bottle of 'Champion' beer which was brewed especially for the occasion by Ed Wray, brewer and maltster at Campden BRI in Surrey. Therese and Peter were unable to attend the Parliamentary presentation event in January this year so Jonathan Adnams invited them to receive their award at Adnams Brewery. “We were delighted to present the Beer Champion certificates to Therese Coffey MP and Peter Aldous MP on behalf of the British Beer & Pub Association.  The visit was extremely timely, with the announcement that the Chancellor has, for the second year, cut a penny off the price of a pint of beer in the budget last week. The pub and beer industry makes a significant contribution to the local economy, it is estimated that in the constituencies of Suffolk Coastal and Waveney employ over 4000 people in the sector. Our local MPs are hugely supportive of Adnams and we congratulate them on becoming Beer Champions.”  Jonathan Adnams The MPs were also presented with a bottle of Adnams Mosaic beer, the latest in the Jack Brand range. Fergus commented, “Mosaic was launched a couple of weeks ago in pubs, but only arrived in bottle to the brewery on Friday. As newly-crowned Beer Champions, we thought it very appropriate that our local MPs should be the first to receive a bottle.”  You can find out more about Jack Brand Mosaic here.
