Sustainable wine news

By Sarah Groves, also posted in News on

Renowned sustainable drinks businesses Adnams and Lanchester Wines have announced a partnership to develop a number of wine ranges for Adnams retail stores as well as a range of exclusive wines for pubs and bars. The wines, carefully sourced from Chile, Argentina, USA, New Zealand and Australia, are imported by Lanchester Wines and bottled by its sister company, Greencroft Bottling, here in the UK.

Sourcing quality wine is key and the Adnams Wine Buying team, lead by Master of Wine James Davis, have selected Lanchester Wines as a partner due to the company’s shared sustainability values and detailed wine care management program. As a sustainable business, it is important to select suppliers with the same environmental and sustainable ethos, which is where the synergies around reduction in carbon footprint became apparent - Lanchester

Wines through generation of clean, renewable energy, and Adnams through leading sustainability projects such as the building of an eco-friendly distribution centre, energy-efficient brewing using recovered heat and a move to 100% renewable electricity and zero to landfill. The Adnams wine buying team were keen to partner with Lanchester Wines to source a range of own label wines according to a strict selection process, whilst also reducing the carbon footprint.

The winery and its winemaking practises are as vital as the bottler and their facilities, and UK bottling facilities allow the team to ensure the highest standards are maintained to ensure quality at every step.

Buyer Lydia Harrowven from Adnams comments, “We’re delighted to be working with Lanchester Wines to ensure we provide Adnams customers with fantastic wines. Quality is paramount and with today’s flexitank materials and quality management, we are able to rely on this method of transporting wines to preserve the integrity of the wine. This approach provides our customers with great wines as well as a reduced environmental impact than those bottled at source. Bottling wine in the UK provides significant carbon savings to the wines’ journey - a saving of over 4.5 tonnes of carbon per tank from the shipping fuel alone.”

Lanchester Wines work with some of the best wine producers across the globe and have an impressive portfolio. They also ship and supply a range of premium wines that are bottled at source. You can find out more about Lanchester Wines' commitment to sustainability here.
