The British Guild of Beer Writers was established in 1988 to help spread the word about beer and brewing and improve standards of beer writing in general. There are currently over 150 members. The event invites beer writers, journalists, brewers and brewery teams to meet and discuss the current state of the brewing industry over a beer provided by not just us, but also Shepherd Neame, Thwaites, Green King, Brains, Fuller's and Molson Coors. Pete Brown 2012 Beer Writer of the Year The awards were presented by Pete Brown, who was last year's recipient of the 'Beer Writer of the Year' award and in his opening statement he said "2013 has been a good year for beer, with the first reduction in beer duty in over 50 years and burgeoning interest in our national drink. We’re seeing an average of two new breweries opening every week, innovative beers coming onto the market and a growing number of beer enthusiasts drawn from a much broader range of drinkers than would have been the case a decade ago."
