Wheat Street - new exclusive beer for Wetherspoon pubs

By Fergus Fitzgerald, also posted in News on

Sixpoint Wheat StreetWheat Street is the 4th beer we’ve brewed with Sixpoint Brewery for J D Wetherspoon outlets. This time we’ve brewed an American wheat beer. The recipe was worked up by Shane from Sixpoint (Brooklyn, USA) with help from Curly Dan, one of our brewers. Wheat Street is a Sixpoint craft-beer approach to the American summer wheat style. It is made to a strength of 5% ABV, and brewed with pale ale malt, malted wheat, and a touch of acidulated malt to give it a tangy edge. It's hopped with a blend of Centennial, Amarillo and Citra hops to give a fruity, citrus kick to this refreshing summer beer. We didn’t use our house yeast, instead we went with yeast strain 'US05', to let the wheat and hops shine through. Shane also brought with him a beautiful 3 handled glass-bottomed tankard engraved with “Adnams” and Sixpoint's moto “Beer is Culture”, which is a really nice touch. As always, it's fun hanging out with Shane. You never know where the conversation will end up, but suffice to say if the world's politicians ever come calling we have all the answers they’ll need, no matter what the problem, provided they understand rhyming slang. Shane's invited us over to brew in New York and I think we may just have to do it, just have to find some volunteers…
You can find Wheat Street at your local participating Wetherpoon pub as part of the American Craft Brewers’ Showcase.
