Soho Theatre High Tide poster (Thank you to all entrants - this competition is now closed. However, please contact the HighTide Festival should you wish to purchase tickets. Congratulations to our winners!) Do you think you’re funny? Do you? Well, here’s your chance to prove it and win a pair of tickets to one of four outstanding comedy nights brought to The HighTide Festival by Soho Theatre. In Aldeburgh, after eight years at Halesworth, the HighTide Festival showcases the very best new playwrights as well as music and ‘face to face’ chats with well-known authors, directors, actors and presenters. As well as the location, new this year are the Comedy Nights, hosted by our friends at Soho Theatre. The Festival will also bring four premieres to Aldeburgh with works staged on the beach and across a range of venues in the town from 10th until 20th September. For a full list of shows, click here. Soho Theatre is the home of some of the most exciting new writing, comedy and cabaret and has forged a reputation for spotting ground-breaking talent. This September sees them continuing their work with High Tide Festival, with a series of shows from some of the finest comedians to have played at the theatre in 2015. Tickets to the comedy nights are £12.50 per person.

The HighTide Festival Comedy line-up

Nish Kumar: Long word… Long word… Blah blah blah… I’m so clever Venue: James Cable Room, White Lion Hotel Friday 11th September at 21.45 Length: 60 mins (no interval) Ages 16+ “Best Show Fosters Comedy Award nominee 2015: This is a stand-up comedy show for people who like stand-up comedy shows by a man that does stand-up comedy. Depending on your opinion, that man is either a comedian on the up (The Times), a comedian I’ve never heard of (Audience member) or a very clever boy (Nish Kumar).” Sam Simmons: Spagetti for Breakfast Venue: Aldeburgh Cinema Saturday 12th September at 21.45 Length: 60 mins (no interval) Ages 15+ “The winner of the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Best Show 2015 at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Barry Award for Best Show at Melbourne International Comedy Festival.” John Kearns: Shtick Venue: James Cable Room, White Lion Hotel Friday 18th September at 21.45 Length: 60mins (no interval) Ages 16+ “Kearns is the only comedian to win the Foster’s Best Newcomer (2013) and Best Comedy Show (2014) at the Edinburgh Fringe. This is that winning show.” Shappi Khorsandi Venue: Aldeburgh Cinema Saturday 19th September at 21.45 Length: 60mins (no interval) Ages 16+ “Shappi Khorsandi is one of the hottest comedy prospects in the country. She’s feisty, flirty and effortlessly funny, she handles every subject with a razor-sharp wit, softened only by her deliciously dizzy delivery and endless charm.” All you need to do to enter for a chance to win tickets is tell us which night you would like to go to (just one pair of tickets per show are available) and also make us laugh by telling us your favourite bar or pub related joke. Here’s an example from a member of the Adnams’ team who studied at the Christmas Cracker School of Comedy but failed to qualify: A sandwich walks into a bar and says to the barman, ‘I’ll have pint of Bitter please’, and the barman says, ‘Sorry, we don’t serve food.' Should your joke tickle us enough, we’ll let you know by email. Your tickets will be waiting for you at the venue. Ticket competition terms and conditions:  Competition open to those over 18 years of age only. Only one entry per person. Please ensure that you are available to attend on the day you select should your joke win. Prize does not include transport to and from the event or accommodation. No cash alternative available and prize is not transferable. Winners will be contacted by email to be notified of their success. Please note; if the winner does not reply within 48 hours we reserve the right to select a new winner to claim the tickets.
