Adnams invested in a reverse osmosis plant which allows the team to brew Ghost Ship 4.5% and then take out the alcohol leaving the same amazing taste.
The Telegraph - "Very fruity and zingy, with strong citrus hints. Taste just like a proper beer."
Love Food - "Fruity but dry, Ghost Ship 0.5% packs a punch with it's bold bitterness, and fruity notes. Vegan and with just 21 calories per 100ml, it's guilt free too."
Men's Health - "A 'proper ale' with lots of hoppiness."
Sunday Express - "Here's one of the most convincing low/no alcohol beers I've sampled. It is fresh and flavoursome with a nice hoppy bite and delicious passion fruit and peach aromas, as well as fresh citrus notes."
About Time - "For those wanting to cut down on booze, Adnams has launch Ghost Ship 0.5%. It has all the flavour of the regular pale ale with only 0.5% abv so your hangover won't be coming to haunt you the next day."
The Times - "Dry-hopped, fruity, full-throttle and malty. No wonder Adnams keeps running - it's delicious!"
Contains gluten, barley & rye. Suitable for Vegans
All the same flavours and aromas as Ghost Ship 4.5% but is no apparition, treating pale ale lovers to 100% of the taste at 0.5% abv - spooky!
Perfect for a summer barbecue. Also goes well with spicy food, pizza, and summer salads.
Brewer Dan Gooderham explains how Ghost Ship Alcohol Free is made: "To make Ghost Ship Alcohol Free, we first brew a version of Ghost Ship 4.5% using East Anglian barley – locally-grown rye crystal malt and cara malts. We dry-hop with citra, chinook and cascade to create those bright, citrus aromas and flavours, and ferment as we would normally. The beer is then sent across to our new reverse osmosis plant, where under pressure water and ethanol travel across membranes. The driver for the process is the concentration gradient of ethanol across the membranes. We add lots of water to carry the ethanol away leaving a concentrated Ghost Ship minus the alcohol. We then blend back some fresh water and carbon dioxide to create Ghost Ship Alcohol Free."
I feel lucky to have found low alcohol Ghost Ship. Its a great full flavoured, refreshing beer with a nice bite and all those citrusy, piney, herby, hoppy, flavours I love. And now I can enjoy it by the gallon, all night, and still bounce out of bed the next morning, which surely is what drinking good beer is about.
Had a bottle of it at a marina near Ipswich as I was skipper to my boat, in fact had two bottles with lunch. Couldn't believe how good the taste was. Bought a case from the Adnams shop in Woodbridge this is the best ultra low beer around.
I gave up alcohol about 7 years ago...after a dry November. I always preferred beer to spirits or wine, but having drunk Kaliber for years when driving, the options were not great! I’ve drink every low/no alcohol beer/larger/stout on the market in the UK and Europe. In the last two years the choices have been amazing! I have four beers at present that are as good as any alcoholic beer and top of my list is Ghost Ship. I must have drunk at least 100 bottles but I still check the label after my first sip, convinced I’ve taken one of my husbands ‘real beers’ out of the fridge. I’ve fooled several beer drinking friends as well. Best product on the market...wish I could buy this in Europe too!
I've been trying lots of low alcohol/alcohol-free beers over the last couple of years. Why? To have a good drink that tastes like beer but has no after effects, to cut down on alcohol generally, to cut down on calories, and to be able to have some decent beer and still drive home. Alcohol-free wines are awful, but some beers are very good, and Ghost Ship is about the best of the many I've tried. A few run it close, mostly American IPA-style beers, but Ghost Ship is delicious and excellent value for money. The biggest problem is finding pubs that stock a range of low alcohol beers and this one in particular.
Great taste, I ordered this on the 'strength' of the reviews and I haven't been disappointed, good stuff Adnams !
I found this in my local Waitrose recently and having tried alcohol free lagers in the past I was a bit sceptical about trying it. However I was extremely surprised at the depth of flavour this beer has, I highly recommend it.
Love Ghost Ship 0.5%. Great for a hot day when you can enjoy a couple of cold ones without the alcohol effects. Of all the alcohol free or low alcohol beers this is simply the best.
I came across the normal Ghost Ship a few years ago and is now my favourite beer. Yesterday 7/7/19 I went into the Blue Boar Weatherspoons in Billericay and found they did the Ghost Ship alcohol free beer. At this point I didn't know it was even available, so I had one. I was amazed, it really does teste like Ghost ship and I'm so happy because I'm normally driving and now I can still have my favourite teste and drive. Great job Adnams.
Since my husband was diagnosed with gout in all his joints so has to watch his alcohol intake, I've been buying him Adnams Ghost Ship 0.5% which he thoroughly enjoys.
This beer is superb , taste's great and you forget it's non acholic , try it you'll love it and you can drive after no worries 👍 , thanks for great beer adnams, by the way they sell it in weather spoons so that's a good do ! 10 out of 10 from me
Ghost Ship 0.5% makes it easier to stop drinking. I stopped drinking during a yoga holiday and wondered if I was ever going to enjoy a real ale again without the alcohol. I went through the ranges available at the local shops and quickly zeroed in on Adnams Ghost Ship 0.5%. One thing I've never ever seen in reviews is EVERY REVIEW HAS 5 STARS I don't need to add any more acclaims, it's all ready been said. Thank you Adnams. Another brilliant clear headed evening drinking Ghost and practicing the piano.
As a beer aficionado who has had to (temporarily) give up alcohol recently, I felt really downhearted as I began to search for alternatives. But what a joy it was to discover this! It is totally delicious; hoppy and refreshing! When I'm drinking this beer I don't miss the alcohol at all, in fact I think I prefer it. This will definitely be a regular feature in my fridge even after I get back in the saddle. It'll be perfect for a summer evening, satisfying and thirst-quenching but leaving one clear headed. Perfect!
Great in 500 cl bottles. Looking forward to it in 440ml cans (or 500).
just opened my first ever GSAF. Trying to cut down intake of Alcohol and have a few evenings a week without. This is brilliant. All the taste and flavour without the worry of overdoing it. I agree with all other reviews, the best AF beer by a mile. Well done Adnams.
I was bought a couple of Ghost Ship 0.5% for Christmas and have to say it is the absolute best low alcohol beer I have ever tasted! Over the years I have tried to find a low alcohol beer that actually tastes like beer - whether lager or beer, all of which have tasted nothing like beer. Ghost Ship is stunning and I am really excited at enjoying this beer as my go-to drink. Well done Adnams - fantastic!!!
Having started 2019 with a dry January, I’ve been trying various low alcohol beers in an effort to find one thst’s palatable. Most of the beers I’ve tried were too “malty,” and left an unpleasant aftertaste. They weren’t all bad. My two favourites were, in order of preference, Brewdog Nanny Sate, and Pistonhead Flat Tyre. Both of these were a reasonable substitute for the real thing. Then I discovered Ghost Ship, and with a single sip I knew I’d found the Holy Grail of low alcohol beer. Although it doesn’t have the kick of its high alcohol namesake, it is a worthy substitute. There is no hint of malt, or nasty aftertaste. It actually tastes very pleasant, and I’d be hard-pushed to recognise its low-alcohol status in a blind taste test. If, like me, you’re looking for a low alcohol beer that actually tastes like beer, look no further than Ghost Ship, my new beer of choice (at least until 31 January). Recommended!
Having tried many LA / AF offerings over the last 15 months, I had resigned myself to LA lagers. I honestly could not tell the difference between the 0.5% and 4.5% Ghost Ship bottles. As this was always a favourite beer of mine, the discovery of the 0.5% version in my local supermarket and a few local pubs has really made my day. I cannot overstate the fact that this has none of the sweet or malty overtones of other LA/AF beers. Absolutely spot-on. You've made me a very happy man!
I ordered 20 bottles from Adnams and the Tesco’s. Best AF beer ever tasted You can join in the fun and not lose your licence with this one! Highly recommended
I am not a fan of Lagers, generally and so ice cold zero alcohol ones leaving wishing I had chosen a bottle of San Pelligrono. As other reviewers have said, this is a game changer. I drink it at about 14degC and so all the aromas and flavour are full-on. I would say that it is not only a substitute, it is a genuinely good bottled beer in its own right.
Just discovered this last night in Wetherspoons. This is, quite simply, amazing - it tastes fantastic, like real beer, and has a rich colour and real depth to the taste that other alcohol free beers just don't have. This is finally the real deal: a tremendously enjoyable AF beer that is a genuine treat to drink rather than a pale alternative to the real thing. A game changer. Plus the bottle design is beaut.
