New Adnams Selection Wine - Albariño

The Adnams Selection Albariño, Rias BaixasA new addition to the Adnams range is always an exciting moment. Señor Wine Buyer Alastair Marshall has selected this fresh, citrus-filled Albariño from an innovative winery situated in the beautiful Rias Baixas region of Spain - Bodegas Altos de Torona. Our new Albariño is bursting with green apples, citrus and peach flavours and is smooth and refreshing on the palate. Although there has been wine made in this area since the 16th century, the winery and approach to winemaking at this Bodega is as up-to-date as it can be. The winery itself is partially buried in the hillside and sports a stunning green roof, set with interesting angles like a modern art piece. The architects designed the building to be partially underground to keep the temperature inside constant and cool and also to complement the stunning terraced hillsides. The vineyard is located near to the River Miño and just 10km from the Atlantic Ocean, which means that the climate is mild all year round enabling the Albariño grapes to ripen slowly and retain the variety’s attractive fruity aromas and refreshing, crisp acidity. Winemaker Pablo Ibânez chooses to cold macerate the juice with the skins for a few hours to make the most of the fruit characters and then ferments the juice at a cool temperature. We’re really pleased with this wine, and hope that you love it too. It’s a refreshing aperitif, but excels when paired with seafood.
