Nevermore is the first in a series of collaborative brews for 2021. This year we are focussing on our journey towards a sustainable future and will be partnering with breweries who share this same ethos and attitude.
Locally sourced malt provides a rich, toasty balance to a raft of fresh UK hops. Hints of milk chocolate, coconut, and just a touch of smoke give a subtle complexity. You’ll find flavours and aromas of juicy pineapple, grapefruit and resinous pine along with earthy herbs and a lovely, spicy bouquet. It has that medium-bodied mouthfeel you’d expect from a porter and smooth, clean bittering characteristics.
Tastes great with Prawn and Chorizo Paella or a Wild Mushroom Risotto.

The beer’s name is taken from Edgar Alan Poe’s famous poem, ‘The Raven’ and is inspired by Adnams Ghost Ship and Thornbridge’s Wild Raven. Our brewers have conjured up the spirit of both beers but reimagined them with modern British hops. When brought together in collaboration, the result was this refreshingly fruity 5.0% India Porter that’s bittersweet - just like Poe’s haunting tale.
India Porters once sat alongside IPAs. They were a bit heartier, yet still offered the thirst-quenching freshness of their paler counterparts, which makes them perfect for Spring.
Folklore casts the raven as a messenger and it ties in with our aims for this year’s series and the notion of sharing ideas as we look for answers, innovate and reduce our impact on the world around us.

This is not my type of porter. It is somewhat confused, neither a bitter or a porter. Not the usual Adnams quality we expect and love.
Sadly I didn’t drill down to the detail before I ordered so didn’t spot the 42 IBU! For me the beer is way too bitter for a Porter and the subtle flavours of the carefully chosen ingredients are overwhelmed by this. Ghost Ship is such a brilliant well-balanced beer I assumed that this would be the same. Not sure I’ll be able to drink my other 11 cans!
This ravishing dark beer is a collaboration between two of the biggest hitters in British brewing. Adnams has its roots in the 19th Century while Thornbridge is a mere youngster, having been founded in 2005. Not only is it delicious, but the two breweries have stuck to English hops and locally-grown barley to make a point about sustainability and cutting down food miles. You can drink it secure in the knowledge you are helping the planet in a small way. Designated as an India Porter (think IPA meets porter), it is dark brown with caramel and roasted coffee beans on the nose. It is smooth and creamy with hints of milk chocolate and a soft citrusiness before it finishes dry and bracingly bitter. Gorgeous.
